Duels & Deception by Cindy Anstey
Publishes April 11, 2017 by Swoon Reads

Miss Lydia Whitfield, heiress to the family fortune, has her future entirely planned out. She will run the family estate until she marries the man of her late father's choosing, and then she will spend the rest of her days as a devoted wife. Confident in those arrangements, Lydia has tasked her young law clerk, Mr. Robert Newton, to begin drawing up the marriage contracts. Everything is going according to plan.

Until Lydia—and Robert along with her—is kidnapped. Someone is after her fortune and won't hesitate to destroy her reputation to get it. With Robert's help, Lydia strives to keep her family's good name intact and expose whoever is behind the devious plot. But as their investigation delves deeper and their affections for each other grow, Lydia starts to wonder whether her carefully planned future is in fact what she truly wants…

which showcases recent additions to our shelves.

So, from November 20th to November 27th, I got...

No Love Allowed by Kate Evangelista
The Leaving Season by Cat Jordan

    Dream On by Kerstin Gier
    Burning by Danielle Rollins
The Square Root of Summer by Harriet Reuter Hapgood

These are all ARCs! I won them a little over a month ago from Christy!

    On My Kindle

The Crown's Game by Evelyn Sky

Kindle e-book giveaways by Samantha and Brenda respectively! I can't wait to dive into both, especially TCG since my friend Brittany has been rec'ing me it for ages!

Assassin's Creed: Heresy by Christie Golden
Certain Dark Things by Silvia Moreno-Garcia
Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst

OKAY SO! So. I've heard a LOT of good—GREAT—things about Heresy from Mor over on twitter, but it's like #9 in a series and I have no idea if I have to read the others? But yo, IT SOUNDS SO AWESOME.

Certain Dark Things is a fairly new addition overall. I only found about it last week. But it sounds so cool and I love the cover! Of Fire and Stars is just a book I feel everyone needs. I can't wait to get to gay princesses.

WELL, Y'ALL. I hope my American friends had a wonderful Thanksgiving. And my friends from around the world, you guys are awesome too and I hope you had a wonderful day in general!

Swoon Thursday is a weekly feature hosted by #YABound
in which we share something that made us swoon in the
book we're currently reading or recently finished.

This week I'm featuring Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton!

Another curse ripped out after it in Xichian, then one in Jarpoorian that Jin had taught me while we crossed the desert, the pain drawing out every insult in every language that I knew. I was halfway through a colourful curse in Gallan when Jin kissed me.
Any more words I might have had died cataclysmically the second his mouth found mine. My thoughts fell to ruins right behind.
I’d almost forgotten what being kissed by Jin was like.
God, did he ever know how to kiss me.
He kissed me like it was the first time and the last time. Like we were both going to burn alive from it. And I folded into him like I didn’t care.
    e-ARC, pgs 129-130
    No spoilers, I hope!

I'm breathless all over again. I can't help it. Every single time I come across a Jin and Amani moment, my heart stutters. I physically squeal and proceed to fangirl like no tomorrow. I don't know what it is about these two that make me so fucking giddy but holy shit, I love them. So much.

I can't wait for y'all to read this book. It's absolutely amazing and thrilling and o m g. I'm still not over it.

The Dark Days Pact by Alison Goodman
Book #2 in the Lady Helen series
Publishes January 31, 2017 by Viking Books for Young Readers

Sequel to New York Times bestselling author Alison Goodman's acclaimed The Dark Days Club—a smashing combination of Buffy and Jane Austen!

    Summer, 1812.

After the scandalous events at her presentation ball in London, Lady Helen has taken refuge at the fashionable seaside resort of Brighton, banished from her family and training as a Reclaimer with the covert Dark Days Club. She must learn to fight the dangerous energy-wielding Deceivers and prepare to face their master, the elusive Grand Deceiver.

As she struggles to put aside her genteel upbringing, Helen realizes that her mentor, Lord Carlston, is fighting his own inner battle. Has the foul Deceiver energy poisoned his soul, or is something else driving him towards violent bouts of madness? Either way, Helen is desperate to help the man with whom she shares a deep but forbidden connection.

When Mr. Pike, the hard bureaucratic heart of the Dark Days Club, arrives in Brighton, he has a secret mission for Helen: find the journal left by a mad rogue Reclaimer, before it falls into the hands of the Deceivers. Coerced by Pike, Helen has no choice but to do as ordered, knowing that the search for the journal may bring about Lord Carlston’s annihilation.

the wonderful people at The Broke and the Bookish.

    This week's TTT topic is...

Thanksgiving freebie—tell us what you are thankful for! Books you are thankful for!

I am a simple person for the most part. This list won't include anything too out of the ordinary.

♩ My best friends, Joslyn and Lani and Séamus. I haven't even met the latter two, but they're just such important people in my life. They'd also make fun of me if they ever read this. So they are never going to read this.

♩ My friends on twitter, people whom I've never thought I'd meet let alone interact with. With all the book chats, it's been a whirlwind of people who've I talked and freaked out with. I wouldn't have it any other way.

♩ Lemonade. And iced tea. My favourite drinks. I'm super glad they exist.

♩ Make-up. Mostly lipstick and eyeliner. They've been a blessing.

♩ Nail polish. Specifically black and silver nail polish. Another blessing.

♩ Popeyes. Have you tried their biscuits? And their fries? They're amazing.

♩ Authors. For writing books. For being there and for understanding. For pushing and fighting and inspiring.

♩ The book community. Good god, it's been rough as hell lately, but everyone I've come into contact with has been so kind and positive and it warms my heart. To everyone who creates bookish goodies to everyone who just gets your moments freaking out over a book—y'all are awesome.

♩ Cake. This one is self explanatory.

♩ Booooooooooks. Mostly all of them. The ones I've never read, the ones I plan to read, the ones I don't know exist, the ones I wish I could write some day. I'm glad they exist.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving this week! And if you don't celebrate, then I hope you have a wonderful day or night! I hope there's something that makes your week (or just day) soon so you know it's not all hopeless!

Swoon Thursday is a weekly feature hosted by #YABound
in which we share something that made us swoon in the
book we're currently reading or recently finished.

This week I'm featuring The Fallen Kingdom by Elizabeth May!

"Are you trying to forget me, MacKay?"
Kiaran looks up at me, his beautiful lilac eyes oddly vulnerable. "Say that name again." His voice is rough with emotion. He does feel, then he's still Kiaran. And he's worth saving.
      I smile. "MacKay."
His fingers slide down my ribs. Lower. "Again."
      "Kiaran MacKay."
His name barely leaves my lips and then he's kissing me, long and slow. I breathe it out again, his name. A chant. A pray. Again. Once more.
He rewards me with another kiss, another. He trails his fingertips across my skin in slow, exploring strokes that leave me aching. That make me want.
      e-ARC, pgs 89-90
Worry not friends, this swoon has no spoilers, nothing significant at least. And I know, okay, I know I shouldn't be posting this at all because not only is it a third book, but it isn't out until June of next year, but good god, this book. It gave me so many emotions. I cried, I laughed, I swooned. This was a satisfying ending and I can easily say this is only of my favourite series.

Traitor to the Throne by Alwyn Hamilton
Book #2 in the Rebel of the Sands trilogy
Publishes March 7, 2017 by Viking Books for Young Readers (US)

The sizzling, un-put-downable sequel to the bestselling Rebel of the Sands!

Mere months ago, gunslinger Amani al'Hiza fled her dead-end hometown on the back of a mythical horse with the mysterious foreigner Jin, seeking only her own freedom. Now she's fighting to liberate the entire desert nation of Miraji from a bloodthirsty sultan who slew his own father to capture the throne.

When Amani finds herself thrust into the epicenter of the regime—the Sultan's palace—she's determined to bring the tyrant down. Desperate to uncover the Sultan's secrets by spying on his court, she tries to forget that Jin disappeared just as she was getting closest to him, and that she's a prisoner of the enemy. But the longer she remains, the more she questions whether the Sultan is really the villain she's been told he is, and who’s the real traitor to her sun-bleached, magic-filled homeland.

Forget everything you thought you knew about Miraji, about the rebellion, about djinni and Jin and the Blue-Eyed Bandit. In Traitor to the Throne, the only certainty is that everything will change.

Excited about Dead Girls Society and Before Tomorrow was on sale. I didn't like book 1 at all but I hope this is better!

I won't lie, this week has been a tough one. I've been going back and forth on whether I should write out my feelings, be it in fiction or on here. But one step at a time, right? I had a lot of fun Friday and I think it's those days—the unexpected ones—that help you get through with whatever hardships are ahead. Stay strong, darlings. You aren't alone and you matter, regardless of whatever some asshole tells you.
