Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by
the wonderful people at The Broke and the Bookish.

∙∙∙∙∙·♫·*·♪..♪·*·♫·∙∙∙∙∙

Look. Confession time: Halloween may be my favourite holiday but it is 100% for the aesthetic. I don't dress up or even go out (though I wouldn't mind it); I'm more likely to be stuck inside the house and try to pick a creepy, atmospheric, eerie, or bloody read. Or all 4. So, this brings me to today's list: books that you should check out during this time of year!

♩ The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

I. Adore. This. Book. To pieces, okay? Holly Black is a genius and if you've heard the hype, trust me, it is warranted. 100%. Black does not hold back and she does faeries in all their natural, bloody light. I loved reading every bit of it and it is the perfect read for a night like Halloween's.

♩ Reign of the Fallen by Sarah Glenn Marsh

Necromancers + a visit to where the dead reside? I mean. Why not? Paired with a wonderful cast of characters, all unique and intriguing in their own right, Reign of the Fallen is a beautifully atmospheric read for Halloween season!

♩ The Darkest Powers series by Kelley Armstrong

This series is just so much fun! Supernatural kids with underlying hints of romance and tons of action! I love, love, love this series for so many reasons and it's always a blast to be thrown back into Chloe's adventures!

♩ Gray Wolf Island by Tracey Neithercott

The writing in Gray Wolf Island is something else! It's so beautiful and atmospheric! There's a great cast of characters too—the group is so much fun and a lot of their conversations are super hilarious. There's a great setting and treasure hunting and secrets! It's truly a wonderful debut.

♩ Blackbird of the Gallows by Meg Kassel

Look, there's a great sarcastic character, tons of birds randomly flying around and seemingly out of nowhere, and a pretty cool end-of-the-world type of thing going on here and I am all for it. Blackbird was such a cool debut; the writing was fun and light and you just got sucked into the story! Plus, that cover!

♩ the Stalking Jack the Ripper series by Kerri Maniscalco

Taking place in the Ripper time (AKA I have no idea when lmfao), followed by a hunt for Dracula himself, Maniscalco's Ripper series is absolutely fun and full of gruesome mystery. The latest novel, Hunting Prince Dracula added more to the series and it's one you'll definitely want to read!

♩ the Monsters of Verity series by Victoria Schwab

First of all, it's Schwab. Second of all, there are monsters. Third, precious August Flynn, my love. Why should you read this book?

Well.

Why not?

♩ The Dreadful Tale of Prosper Redding by Alexandra Bracken

Alex Bracken's debut to middle grade is a successful one and literally perfect for Halloween. I mean, family curses? Whisked off to meet eccentric extended family, a cousin who's a witch—all during the most wonderful creepy time of the year? Yes, please! Prosper is an incredibly fun novel so even if you're a fan of her YA, you won't want to miss out on this one!

♩ the Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo

Six of Crows is a phenomenal novel, no matter what time of year it is. If you haven't read it yet (for some reason???), I hiiiiighly recommend it. Wonderful characters + great stakes + Inej & Nina.

♩ Velvet by Temple West

Okay, look. Look. This book has the dorkiest vampire I have ever come across. And the cutest fake-ship EVER. I love Adrian! And Caitlin has such a funny & sarcastic voice, it makes for a really enjoyable novel. You'll absolutely fall in love with the characters and the story!

So! I hope you guys had a wonderful month! I'm sad Halloween is over—the month, but the Holiday, too, I guess—but this month brought about a lot of great reads! What are some of your favourite Halloween-y reads?

Happy Halloween, guys! Today, I'm excited to reveal the cover of Mary Fan's next novel, Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil, out May 15, 2018!

∙∙∙∙∙·♫·*·♪..♪·*·♫·∙∙∙∙∙

Are you guys ready?

Without further ado, I present you the cover for Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil!

{ about the book }

Flynn Nightsider and the Edge of Evil by Mary Fan
Flynn Nightsider, book 1
Publishes May 15, 2018 from Crazy 8 Press
Cover art done by Streetlight Graphics
Add it on Goodreads!

Break the enchantments. Find the truth. Ignite the revolution.

A century ago, the Enchanters defeated the evil Lord of the Underworld, but not before he’d unleashed his monsters and ravaged the earth. The Enchanters built the Triumvirate out of what remained of the United States, demanding absolute obedience in exchange for protection from the lingering supernatural beasts.

Sixteen-year-old Flynn Nightsider, doomed to second-class life for being born without magic, knows the history as well as anyone. Fed up with the Triumvirate’s lies and secrecy, he longs for change. And when he stumbles across a clue that hints at something more – secrets in the dark, the undead, and buried histories – he takes matters into his own hands.

Before long, Flynn finds himself hunted not only by the government, but also by nightmarish monsters and a mysterious man with supernatural powers … all seeking him for reasons he cannot understand. Rescued by underground rebels, he’s soon swept up in their vision of a better world, guided by a girl as ferocious as the monsters she fights. But as the nation teeters on the brink of revolution, Flynn realizes three things.

The rebellion is not what it seems.

Flynn himself might be more than he seems.

And the fate of the world now rests in his hands.

Retribution Rails by Erin Bowman
Vengeance Road, book 2

Add it on GoodReads!
REDEMPTION IS NEVER FREE

When Reece Murphy is forcibly dragged into the Rose Riders gang because of a mysterious gold coin in his possession, he vows to find the man who gave him the piece and turn him over to the gang in exchange for freedom. Never does he expect a lead to come from an aspiring female journalist. But when Reece's path crosses with Charlotte Vaughn after a botched train robbery and she mentions a promising rumor about a gunslinger from Prescott, it becomes apparent that she will be his ticket to freedom—or a noose. As the two manipulate each other for their own ends, past secrets are unearthed, reviving a decade-old quest for revenge that may be impossible to settle.

In this thrilling companion to Vengeance Road, dangerous alliances are formed, old friends meet new enemies, and the West is wilder than ever.

{ my review }

♫ ♫ ♫ ♫

Okay, so, I didn't read Vengeance Road prior to this book—I still haven't so shame on me. If this book is any indication, I'll definitely need to pick it up because wow, what a surprise!

Anyway, before I continue, a few disclaimers. If you planned on reading this book—and you should, honestly—but haven't read Vengeance Road, like me, there will be some spoilers for the book. While Retribution Rails also stands on its own, I'd recommend reading the first book in the companion series for the full effect. It's not necessary, but definitely a good suggestion. (AKA, don't be like me lol.)

Anyway! One of the best things about this book was that romance was hardly the focus at all. In fact, it was barely there! There were... hints, but otherwise, it focused a lot of the characters and the plot, making it a very action-packed, fast-paced read.

I've not read many western novels, so this was probably a small introduction for me. I'm glad it was this novel because I loved the characters, Reece and Charlotte, so much! Not to mention that Bowman did a wonderful job with it, from the research and setting to the writing and dialogue. It's clear she excels at these sort of novels.

I adored Reece! So much. The situation he was in, how he was so torn, it was so heartbreaking. (Not because it was like sad or anything, he's just precious and I want to protect him, you know?) Anyway, he's had an extremely difficult life as a kid because of the Rose Riders attacking his family. He was forced to join them and every atrocious thing they did to other people. His story made me really respect him.

Warming up to Charlotte took some time, but I ended up loving her too. I mean, she acted really entitled—or naïve, I guess?—in the beginning, partly because she expected help from the people she asked which was sort of ridiculous to me. But things definitely weren't easy for her and I liked that she persevered and did what she thought was necessary to fix her problems instead of waiting around. Charlotte definitely had significant growth from the beginning of the novel.

There are some old characters that play a big role in the novel. (Again, if you haven't read Vengeance Road, it's a good idea you do so before this one.) I won't say anything beyond that, but I liked them a lot!

Soooo. I'd consider pre-ordering this book (I hear there's an incentive as well!) If you loved Vengeance Road, you'll love Retribution Rails! There's action, secret plans, and so much more! 4 stars!

Swoon Thursday is a weekly feature hosted by #YABound
in which we share something that made us swoon in the
book we're currently reading or recently finished.

∙∙∙∙∙·♫·*·♪..♪·*·♫·∙∙∙∙∙

This week I'm featuring The Murano Glass Slipper by Victoria Leybourne!

She didn't let him finish. She couldn't. In one smooth, sudden swoop, she lifted her face to his and kissed him. His lips, impossibly soft, brushed blissfully against hers. Then his hands were on her waist, her fingers were in his hair, and they were exploring one another, tenderly and urgently.
They didn't part until Chiara was dizzy.
"What did you want to tell me?" she whispered.
Domenico took a deep breath. "The thing is," he said, "I love you."

The Way You Make Me Feel by Maurene Goo
Standalone Novel
Publishes May 8, 2018 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux (BYR)
Add it on GoodReads!

From the author of I Believe in a Thing Called Love, a laugh-out-loud story of summer love, new friendships, and one unique food truck.

Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn’t so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dad’s business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind? With her signature warmth and humor, Maurene Goo delivers a relatable story of falling in love and finding yourself in the places you’d never thought to look.

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by
the wonderful people at The Broke and the Bookish.

∙∙∙∙∙·♫·*·♪..♪·*·♫·∙∙∙∙∙

I'm not going to post the covers for this Tuesday's topic because a few of the books don't even have covers. It's also going to have probably a lot of titles because bruh. I apparently like a lot of titles. (I really mean a lot.) Without further ado! Let's get started. (Also, you've been warned.)

♩ All The Crooked Saints: okay, I hated this book, and I didn't even finish it. But that title is just something else, and I really do adore it
♩ Because You Love to Hate Me
♩ Before the Devil Breaks You
♩ Beneath the Haunting Sea
♩ Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea: this book had so much potential and such a beautiful and eerie cover and what a mess. A+ title, still though!
♩ By a Charm and a Curse
♩ Cold Burn of Magic: the entire series, actually, has pretty cool titles! And they were so much fun too.
♩ A Conjuring of Light: this, followed by A Darker Shade of Magic, are two of my favourite titles
♩ The Dark Beneath the Ice
♩ The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein
♩ The Darkest Part of the Forest
♩ Descendant of the Crane
♩ Dreams of Gods & Monsters: probably my favourite title, but book 2's title, Days of Blood & Starlight, is beyond beautiful too
♩ An Enchantment of Ravens
♩ Endless Water, Starless Sky: okay, how can you not love this title? And have you seen the cover?!
♩ Fierce like a Firestorm
♩ For a Muse of Fire
♩ The Gilded Wolves
♩ Grim Lovelies
♩ The Hearts We Sold: a beautiful title and a beautiful book; and it just fits with the story
♩ Here Lies Daniel Tate: it just sounds so ominous! I love it
♩ A Hero at the End of the World
♩ If We Were Villains
♩ llluminae
♩ In the Time of Dragon Moon
♩ Invictus
♩ The Invisible Life of Addie La Rue: Schwab gets some amazing titles
♩ The Language of Thorns
♩ Leave the Window Open: I'M BIASED, I JUST LOVE THIS NOVELLA SO, SO MUCH, MY BABY WESLEY
♩ The Lies of Locke Lamora
♩ Love in a Time of Monsters
♩ The Muse of Nightmares
♩ The Night After I Lost You
♩ This Savage Song / Our Dark Duet
♩ Sons of Destiny: only because it is so, so clever
♩ Tell The Wolves I'm Home
♩ The Stars Never Rise: to be fair, the sequel also has a nice title: The Flame Never Dies
♩ This Splintered Silence
♩ These Broken Stars / This Shattered World / Their Fractured Light
♩ A Thousand Pieces of You / Ten Thousand Skies Above You
♩ To Kill a Kingdom
♩ Trust Me, I'm Trouble
♩ The Winner's Curse

WHAT A LIST.

Um. As you can see, definitely not 10, lmao. But I had to go through my entire goodreads TBR for these titles! And so many amazing ones! What are some of your favourites?
